Junior 1 Football Championship: St Loman’s 2-12 Mullingar Shamrocks 0-12.
At half-time, Shamrocks trailed by a single point (0-6 to 0-5) after being generally outplayed. St Loman’s began the scoring with points from Chris Gilbert and Shane Mulderry but like scores from Trevor Keena and Niall Hannigan tied the ball game. A couple of pointed frees and one each from play by Tristan Graham and Danny McCann extended the St Loman’s lead to four points (0-6 to 0-2). A great Philly Shaw save from McCann kept Shamrocks in the game and three quick points by Conor Fagan, Trevor Keena and Nathan Smyth made it all to play for in the second half.
The damage limitation exercise of the minutes before the interval were undone immediately on the restart when St Loman’s broke from the throw-I and Mark Tunney goaled. From the restart, great work from Matthew Siode created a goal scoring opportunity but Rory Mathews saved from Nathan Smyth and Matthew Siode’s follow up effort was also scrambled clear. Two points from Ross Corroon kept us in touch; Danny McCann and Conor Fagan exchanged points, Conor’s point a superb effort from close to the river bank. Shane Mulderry pointed before Cilian Plunkett finished for St Loman’s second goal. This effectively ended the game as a contest. Ross Corroon with four points rounded off our scoring including one great strike from the riverbank. St Loman’s were comfortable 2-12 to 0-12 winners.
