Our under 16 team kicked off their championship campaign against near neighbours St. Loman's on Monday evening in Springfield.

Heavy rain before the game and during the first half resulted in testing conditions.  However, both teams are to be commended for adapting to the very slippy ball and pitch.  The first half was evenly contested with Shamrocks leading at the break by 1-2 to 0-4, Seán Hickey's well-taken goal proving the difference.  Ted Aherne kicked 2 lovely points.  It was great to have Ted back as he had missed the league campaign due to a shoulder injury.  

A word of thanks to our Minor Board Secretary Pat Collins who had a welcome dry set of jerseys ready for the lads at half time. The attention to detail of that man is phenomenal. 

The second half followed the same pattern as the first with great contests throughout the field.  St. Loman's goal midway through the half was crucial and they ran out winners on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-5.

While it was a losing start for Shamrocks, they can take many positives from the performance and can look forward with confidence to the upcoming games against Coralstown-Kinnegad and The Downs.
