ACL Div.3 Mullingar Shamrocks 1-14 St Loman’s 1-14
Mullingar Shamrocks and St Loman’s ended all square in this lively ACL Div. 3 match played on Lakepoint Park’s 3G pitch on Sunday morning. Gary Corroon pointed for Shamrocks in their opening attack but Loman’s responded with a goal from Gareth Hickey. Points from Gary Corroon (0-2) and Simon Quinn levelled matters. A great run by Conor Twomey ended in a fine save by Jason Daly in the St Loman’s goal but Simon Quinn netted the rebound. Lomans responded with points from the Laois-Offaly constituency of Hickey and Billy O’Loughlin but a fine mark by Simon Quinn released Darren Keena for a point (1-5 to 1-2). Chris Gilbert, James Cox and O’Loughlin responded with points to level matters, Niall Hannigan punched one for Shamrocks to edge them ahead (1-6 to 1-5). Lomans equalised through Daniel Sheridan and a point from Chris Gilbert put the home side ahead but three points from Darren Keena, Paddy Joyce and Simon Quinn gave Shamrocks the interval advantage (1-9 to 1-7). Paddy Joyce added to the advantage with a point on resumption but a similar effort by Fola Ayorinde reduced the deficit. Ross Corroon kicked a fine point on the run but Garrett Hickey responded with a similar effort. E O’Keeffe and Hickey pointed to level the match (1-11 each). Garett Hickey edged Lomans ahead but a Darren Keena point balanced matters again. Shane Colleary set-up a point for Darren Keena and Colleary himself pointed a free after the veteran full-forward was fouled to put Shamrocks ahead by 0-2 (1-14 to 1-12). Shamrocks final attack broke down and St Lomans quickly moved the ball downfield and Daniel Sheridan kicked what transpired to be the levelling point (1-14 each). This was a good performance by Shamrocks and was a game that could well have been won but poor shooting and poor shot choice (and the two are related) cost Shamrocks in the end.
