Under-12 Finals Day in TEG Cusack Park …
This weekend was special for the young footballers of the county as the Under-12 League Finals Days were staged in TEG Cusack Park on Saturday and Monday. Over 800 footballers, many of them stars of the future were given the opportunity of playing on the same pitch as the present day stars of Westmeath and Galway performed on Sunday.
This was a wonderful initiative of the Westmeath Coiste na nÓg and we congratulate Barry Kelly, Peter Collins, Pat Collins and the committee members for their initiative in bringing the Under-12 leagues to such a memorable conclusion for the young footballers of the county. Peter Collins was the man with the plan and deserves to be complimented on a fine bit of imaginative thinking. The gift of a football was waiting for each participant when he returned to the dressing room. Next weekend it is the hurlers turn. The future might yet be bright.
A total of 41 players togged out over the two evenings to represent Mullingar Shamrocks. It was their first time playing for Mullingar Shamrocks in Cusack Park – hopefully the first of many occasions there. We played Coralstown-Kinnegad on Saturday evening and Millmore Gaels on Monday when Seaghán Óg Collins emerged as the 4 goal hero and he may even have go the final touch to a fifth goal. A nice way to mark your club debut in the TEG Cusack Park.
