ACL Div.3: Mullingar Shamrocks 1-17 Castletown-Finea Coole Whitehall 2-7

Mullingar Shamrocks fielded their strongest team to date in this match and produced their best performance of the league with an impressive 1-17 on the scoreboard, to collect their first set of points in the division. Shamrocks opened with two points from Darren Keena and Paddy Joyce before CFCW responded in like fashion and added a Joe Rabbitt point to edge ahead. Ross Corroon levelled matters and for the next fifteen minutes Darren Keena and Simon Quinn dominated and scored 0-2 each to bring the Shamrocks total to 0-7 and what looked like a half-time lead of 0-7 to 0-4. David Higgins had other ideas and on the stroke of half-time fielded a long delivery close to goal and dispatched the ball to Dj’s net to level matters at the interval (0-7 to 1-4). The Quinn-Keena double act again proved productive after the interval and added 0-1 each before Kenneth O’Reilly with his first touch following his introduction emulated his first-cousin’s first half achievement and goaled for Shamrocks (1-9 to 1-4).  A Ryan Plunkett goal again engineered by David Higgins steadied the CFCW ship but eight more Shamrocks points before the long whistle secured the league points that were so vital to Mullingar Shamrocks.
