ACL Div.1 Mullingar Shamrocks 2-20 Shandonagh 1-5.
A chronically understrength Shandonagh provided little resistance to Mullingar Shamrocks in this ACL Div. 1 game played in Springfield on Sunday morning. After 5 minutes, Shamrocks, inspired by Dean Moore, raced into a 1-5 to 0-0 lead. Dean scored three of the first four points and delivered the final pass to Lorcan Smyth for the opening goal with a Jamison Gibson-Park like flick. Lorcan shot brilliantly to the net. Jordan Warde pointed from a mark and Deano pointed again from long range. Deano (0-2) and Jordan completed the first-half scoring as the half-time scoreboard read 1-8 to 0-3.
The one-way trend continued in the second half with a few more players getting in on the scoring act. John O’Reilly began the trend, Paddy Fagan (0-3), Lorcan, Brian Guerin, Efe added points and Jordan Warde tapped in the second goal to round off a long passing movement. Many of these points were spectacular near-the-sideline efforts. Sane Carroll’s goal for Shandonagh was scored in the 57th minute. Marc Eivers scored the final point to finish a move that began when Marc received a short restart pass from Eoin Doran.
The rest of the second half points came from the boot of Deano who for the second time in three games brought his tally to double digits with another 0-10 to add to his record. We have not seen that happen too often. Keep shooting the lights out, Deano.
A big win that comes with a health warning. It won’t matter much when we line out against Shandonagh in our first championship match later on in the year.
Remember Tang.
