ACL Div. 5: Mullingar Shamrocks 0-15 Moate All-Whites 1-9
Mullingar Shamrocks Div. 5 team extended their winning record with a good win over Moate All-Whites in Springfield on Friday evening. It was a well contested match with plenty of good football played on the night by both teams. Brian Melody opened the score for Shamrocks with a good point; he also made the final contribution to the scoreboard with the last point of the match that secured the points for Shamrocks. It might have been a goal but between these two scores Brian scored four more good points, all from play as the Shamrocks centre-forward played one of his finest games for Shamrocks. He had many willing helpers on the night. Alan Cashman was strong throughout as were Gary, Pearse and Ross Corroon. Conor Twomey played the extra defender role well and the full-back line of Eamonn Breslin, Ryan Blundell and Cormac Murphy were on top of their game. Wind-assisted Shamrocks held a 0-9 to 1-4 interval lead. Apart from Brian Melody (0-3), Ross Corroon with 0-2 very good points, Conor Bracken (0-1), Alan Cashman (0-1) Gary Corroon (0-1) and Ross Corroon (0-1) contributed to the scoreboard.
Moate All-Whites dominated the early exchanges of the second-half and only a great Killian White save prevented them from taking the lead. Niall Mackey pointed the resultant 45 and then kicked a wonder point from out on the side line to level the match. Niall Hannigan restored the Shamrocks lead but another Moate point levelled matters again (0-10 to 1-7) Brian Melody added two more points, Ross and Pearse Corroon combined well for the latter to kick a neat point, substitute Ciarán O’Meara added another before Brian Melody scored Shamrocks fifteenth point of the night. Fifteen points on the scoreboard is indicative of the quality of football played.
