The Late Mai Byrne
It was with deep regret that we learned on Monday morning of the death of Mai Byrne. Mullingar Shamrocks members and executive extend their deepest sympathy to members of the Byrne family and in particular to Mai’s husband Joseph and her sons David (Daibhí), Stephen, Robert and daughter Emma, and her grandchildren Jack, Aaron, Kate, Shane, Eoin, Aidan, Ruairí, Elyse, Luke, Eve, Darragh, Robyn and Finn. Sympathy is also tended to Mai’s daughters-in-law Aida, Mary and Adrienne, son-in-law Jason (McCabe), her brother Robbie (Canada) and sister Freda White (Abbeyshrule), other members of her extended family and her many friends.
Mai reposes at Gilsenan’s Funeral Home (N91 K660) on tomorrow (Wednesday) from 7.00 pm concluding with prayers at 9.00 pm. Maí’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 1.00 pm in the Cathedral of Christ the King. Cremation Service will take place in Lakelands Crematorium Cavan at 4 pm.
The Byrne and McCabe family connections with Mullingar Shamrocks are many. Emma McCabe Byrne has been a long-time member, supporter and volunteer worker for Mullingar Shamrocks and is currently a member of the club executive as Cultural Officer. The McCabe boys are all active footballers Darragh and Finn at underage level and of course, Luke has made the transition to adult level.

Darragh with his singing talent has also represented the club with distinction on the stage starting as a very young cast member in The Greatest Showman in our Mullingar Shamrocks – The Musicals great fundraiser, before graduating to Scór na nÓg, and the Gig Rig during the Fleadh Cheoil festival last August.
Mai’s granddaughters Eve and Robyn Byrne have represented Mullingar Shamrocks in LGF. Mai is also an aunt-in-law of Paul Aherne.
