Leinster Cross County League Final
After considerable manoeuvring our Under-13 Boys were given the opportunity of playing in the magnificent Abbotstown Complex. Originally fixed to play St Paul’s from Laois in their section final on Saturday, the latter notified the organisers of their inability to field due to a clash with a soccer fixture; the game was rescheduled for Sunday but again St Paul’s were forced to withdraw because of basketball commitments. Ballyna from Kildare who qualified for a higher division final were also left without opposition and to enable boys from both club’s get their match in Abbotstown the two clubs were fixed to play each other. Unfortunately our boys were totally outplayed by a far superior and physically stronger Ballyna team (5-12 to 3-2). However, Joey Rooney who scored 2-1, Ben White who was outstanding and John Ryan (1-0) will have particularly happy memories of their first Leinster final
ACL Div.3: Ballynacarrigy 6-12 Mullingar Shamrocks 1-10
Another comprehensive defeat for our Division 3 team; Ballynacarrigy started better and faster and Shamrocks chased the game without making any real impression despite the best efforts of David Gavin and Donal O’Donoghue. Our only goal came close to the end with a Darren Keena penalty.
Mullingar Shamrocks: Dj Fedronas; Cormac Murphy, Keith Moore, Ryan Blundell; Niall Hannigan, Aaron Purcell, Paddy Joyce (Nathan Smyth); David Gavin and Brendan O’Reilly; Alan Cashman, Donal O’Donoghue, Ross Corroon; Darren Keena, Gary Corroon (Eamonn Breslin), Kenneth O’Reilly.
