Last Man Standing
It was a weekend of carnage for contestants in Our Last Man Standing Competition based on the National Football League. Before a ball was thrown in on Saturday thirty-eight entrants had survived to the fifth round stage. At the final whistle on Sunday evening the numbers were whittled down. The two most popular choices Mayo (11) and Cork (6) failed to deliver for their faithful and Laois (3) and Tyrone (2) also disappointed their believers. Those who supported Limerick (5), Westmeath (3), Tipperary and Monaghan (2) as well as Galway and Longford (1) were rewarded for their confidence and survived for another day. In the next round Dublin (v Roscommon) carry the hopes of 10 runners whilst Armagh (6) and Kerry (3) are the next most popular choices. Six more people have chosen six different counties: Carlow, Donegal, Cork, Kildare, Meath and Galway; this could go to a penalty shoot-out.
