Minor Football League: Mullingar Shamrocks 4–12 Kilbeggan-St Joseph’s 3-9.
Competitive football this weekend was confined to our minors who carved out a great victory against the fancied Kilbeggan-St Joseph’s in Springfield. A good start is half the battle they say and on this occasion Shamrocks began well and played an excellent opening-half. After forty minutes Shamrocks had established a ten-point lead but Kilbeggan-St Joseph’s responded well and reduced the deficit to 0-3 as the game entered the final stages. However, the Shamrocks players regained control and showed great heart and determination to score the points that ensured victory. The lads who produced this spirited performance were: Killian White; Peter Bane, Daragh White, Brian Reidy; Cormac Darby, Mark Eivers, Brandon Heffernan; Kenneth O’Reilly, Dylan Matthews; Cian Roe, Sean Wylie, Cormac Hynes; Pauric McKenna, Jack Gillen, Matthew Maslin; Replacements: Adam McCormack, Cian Fox, Eoin Kilduff and John O’Reilly.
Note: It’s great to see Pauric McKenna back in action and determined to make an impression at minor level in the county this year after being out of action for nearly eighteen months with an illness. Great comeback Pauric.
