Under 13's progress to Final: Mullingar Shamrocks 4-13 The Downs GAA Club 0-17
Our under 13's became the second Shamrocks team in a week to progress to a Division 1 final following the minors who overcame Moate on Monday to reach the minor final.
A strong start from these young Shamrocks men saw them take a strong lead all of which was needed in the second half with a strong comeback from a battling Downs side.
Shamrocks were on top from the throw in and good scores from Darragh Daly and Oliver Keane followed by goals by Shay Leavy and Colm Clinton saw Shamrocks reach half time with a good lead.
The tide turned in the second half when a strong Downs side pushed from the throw in and with a flurry of points started tightening the score board. During this second half recovery The Downs scored 0-14. Despite good work and scores from Theo Kelly and Scott Farrerly the Downs kept the score board ticking.
Shamrocks defence was tested and some good defending from Carl Keane, Sean Dooley Manus Kelly and MJ Burke and some fine saves from Tom McCaul kept the Downs from getting an elusive goal.
This was a high scoring game with some fine scores from both sides in what was a good game of football which is a credit to both sides.
Shamrocks now face our neighbours St Lomans in the final which is day to look forward to for all the lads involved on both sides.
