Weekend Fixtures

Busy times next weekend as our three teams take the field in their respective league games. Our playing resources will be stress tested to the limit but the Westmeath county board executive are to be commended for the latest attempt to deliver a structured programme of fixtures for the club players of the county. Let’s hope the response from all parties is positive.

Saturday, 11 February, Div.3, Mullingar Shamrocks v The Downs in The Downs at 3.30.

Sunday, 12 February, Div.1, Mullingar Shamrocks v St Mary's Rochfortbridge in Rochfortbridge at 11.30.

Sunday, 12 February, Div. 5, Mullingar Shamrocks v Ballymore in Springfield at 3.30.

Foundation Course for Referees.

A foundation course for wannabee referees is scheduled to take place in Cusack Park on 6, 13, 20 February 2017 at 7.45 each evening. All volunteers are welcome and full details are available from Westmeath Referees’ Coordinator, Mick Gordon at 087-6884717 or mhgordon@eircom.net Two referees’ tutors will provide the tuition each night and the 90 minutes of tuition will be given each night.

Last Man Standing

The opening round of National Football League results proved a bit costly to some of the runners in our Last Man Standing Competition. The Westmeath-Carlow and Sligo-Armagh drawn games produced a nice collection of early fallers; next weekend Tipperary, Dublin and Tyrone are popular choices and a slip-up by any of these three would take care of the majority of the apprentice pundits. Organiser in chief, Robbie Boyle, has a word of advice for those who fell at the first fence: ‘For those who went out of our Last Man Standing at the first Hurdle, I think posting the pin you used to pick your team to Lourdes for next year would be a good idea’.

Next Week in Springfield

Two new initiatives begin next week in Springfield. On Monday and Thursday evenings  Margaret Clinton will lead all those interested in taking part in a structured walking programme starting at 7.30 and continuing to 8.30 (approx).  This is ideal for beginners and there is no cost involved. Just put on the walking shoes and arrive in Springfield ready to go at 7.30.

If you want to look good on the dance floor, then Niall Doorhy’s four-week ‘Jivin’ course starting next Sunday in the Clubhouse might be the place for you (3.00-4.15).  Full details at 0873536502.
