Mullingar Shamrocks’ Summer Camp.
Another hugely successful club initiative took place this week with the second of our three annual club camps for boys and girls aged between 6-11. Over 90 players attended and the weather gods were mainly in benevolent mood. Eanna Holland, the club’s GPO, was the main man tasked with running the camp and he received great assistance from underage Secretary, Pat Collins who ensured a welcome supply of healthyish treats for everyone.
We had 18 teenage coaches to run the various drills and activities and yet again these teenagers surpassed themselves with their patience, enthusiasm and people skills. Take a bow Adam Glynn, Lisa Glynn, Criostoir Ormsby, Shane Ormsby, Paul Keating, Laura Matthews, Conor Fagan, Aideen Langtry, Dylan Carey, Ella Briody, Roisin Nohilly, Zara Corroon, Grace Hanly, Ruairi Kelly, Peter Finch, MJ Burke and John Shaw. Andrina Finch was also on hand to work on the younger players’ artistic skills and there were shamrocks and rainbows aplenty adorning the clubhouse.
The ice cream van made a welcome appearance on Wednesday morning, (if it’s good enough for Limerick’s all conquering hurlers then it’s good enough for Shamrocks!!) and the coaches enjoyed this treat as much as the 6 year olds.
The three days were extremely well organised and the participants enjoyed themselves no end. The effusive parental feedback on Wednesday afternoon was gladly received. The planning for the Halloween camp will begin shortly.
