Under-16 Football Championship: St. Joseph's 5-15 Mullingar Shamrocks 1-12
Our Under-16s played their final match of the group in a sunny Streamstown om Sunday morning. Missing a couple of regulars from the team who defeated Delvin on their last outing, the boys were slow out of the traps conceding 1-1 in the first minute. Only for the pinpoint free-taking of Conor Fagan and his quick thinking for an Adam Boyle goal the situation would have been more difficult at half-time. As it was the lads were only 5 points down after a forgettable first half.
Unfortunately, the second half started the same as the first leaving an uphill battle for the Shamrocks. Only for remarkable displays from Conor Kelly and William O’Reilly, the defeat would have been heavier.
Nevertheless, all players got some game time and the lads are into a semi final against Inny Shamrocks in two weeks time. This hopefully giving everyone ample time to get things right against the championship favourites.
Mullingar Shamrocks: Mikey McDonagh, Nathan McLoughlin (William O’Reilly), Cian McGrath (Ben Egan), Rian Adamson, Matthew Clinton (Oísin O’Dowd), Tomass Turks, Ben White, Aaron Russell (Oísin Garry), Daithí Martin, Adam Boyle (Aaron Smith), Conor Fagan, Caoilainn Walsh (Mikey Horan).
