Where would you get the like of It? ... Two Days in the life of Mullingar Shamrocks

An incredible busy weekend in the Mullingar Shamrocks household. It kicked off on Friday evening with a rescheduled Under-12 football match and in a wonderful game of football our boys had a single point to spare over Coralstown-Kinnegad. We had under-16s and seniors training in Springfield as well. On then to Saturday morning where Springfield was a hive of activity; Na SeamrÓigi were there in numbers, Under 12 boys, Under-10s also, the Under-8 and Under-6 girls as well. The family friendly atmosphere was oozing out the gate. When all that was finished the goalposts were realigned for the Under-11 Go-Games Blitz with ourselves, Multyfarnham and Ballynacarrigy. The Under-14 girls were reporting for training and the Under-12s were getting ready to travel to Tang for their championship match with the Goldsmith girls.

Sunday will be just mad busy. We have a senior football challenge, our junior footballers travel out to The Downs to play the home team in the championship (11.00am); the Match of the Day will be in St Oliver Plunkett's at 12.00 when our intermediate LGF team take on Kilbeggan Shamrocks in the county semi-final. The Event of the Day kicks-off in Springfield at 10.30 when eight Under-11 teams compete to take home the Rob Cornally Memorial Trophy. The amount of time behind the scenes required to make all this possible is never documented and rarely acknowledged. And away from the limelight, in preparation for the limelight several teams will be out in Gainstown National School rehearsing for the Event of the Year, the Mullingar Shamrocks show The Sound of the Musicals in the Park Hotel on 28 September. We applaud the wonderful voluntary effort by the many men and women, boys and girls who devote countless hours of their time to make all this possible. Time willingly volunteered for the betterment of the community.

And there are those who think that the GAA is the grab all association.

As they might say in New York ... Give Me A Break.
