Mullingar Shamrocks LGF qualify for Division 3 League Final: Mullingar Shamrocks 2-11 Kilbeggan 2-11.

Mullingar Shamrocks LGF played their final game in the League Division 3 group stages on Saturday night last in Kilbeggan. In this very competitive group, 4 teams were in contention for the two final spots going into the last round of games. Despite winning 3 out of their 4 games in the series, Shamrocks needed a win or draw on Saturday to progress to the final. This was a hard fought game with both sides playing some excellent football. Kilbeggan ran into an early lead scoring 4 points before Shamrocks opening score but Shamrocks then had a period of dominance to go in at half time ahead by 2-4 to 0-7. Kilbeggan again started the second half strongly getting an early goal to level matters. The remainder of the second half was an end to end battle with both sides taking and relinquishing the lead. The game was notable for a fighting team performance, with every player fighting for that division 3 final spot. Shamrock’s utilized the 16 woman panel on the day to great effect, rotating forwards to maintain intensity in the attack. When the final whistle went, the game was level at 2-11 each and Shamrocks had qualified for the final. Notable for Shamrocks were Sophie Hegarty, who was hugely energetic in defence despite picking up a heavy knock towards the end of the first half, Liveta Lazauskaite putting in another strong performance at full back, Alison Bane who was excellent throughout at wing back, wing forward Laura Culkin who scored 1-2 and the ever reliable Isabelle Clinton in goals.
