Under-14 Championship: Mullingar Shamrocks 3-13 Millmore Gaels 0-6

Mullingar Shamrocks began their under-14 championship campaign on Thursday evening with a convincing victory against Millmore Gaels. Shamrocks dominated from start to finish and at the final whistle were comfortable winners. Our Healthy Club Officer Joan was on hand to capture some of the action.

Minor Football Championship: Mullingar Shamrocks 2-9 Killucan 2-9

Shamrocks’ minor side produced their best display of the year on a balmy Saturday afternoon in Springfield against a fine Killucan side with both sides content with a point apiece on a final scoreline of 2-9 each. Team manager Joe Kenny and selectors Pierce Corroon and John Doran were pleased with the efforts of their charges. Despite being without key players William Adzangoa and Brian Farrell who was injured early in the game but his replacement Oliver McNamara played very well and formed part of a full-forward line that threatened all the time. Shamrocks dug deep in the second half to recover from a deficit of six points and Jack Gillen’s late free deservedly secured a share of the spoils. Indeed, Jack’s free taking under pressure was on a par with his recent efforts for Cullion hurlers and his accuracy ensured that the work of Zac Aherne, Andrew Shaw and Trevor Keena did not go unrewarded. At the other end, net-minder Sean Hynes produced another outstanding display of shot stopping and distribution and showed how unlucky he was not to feature for Westmeath minors this year. A case of what might have been for Westmeath perhaps. Mark Flynn was very influential throughout the second half (another player unlucky not to have featured against Dublin in the minor last week especially in the closing stages) and his midfield industry, allied to the defensive heroics of Emmet Walsh, Matthew Siode and Tomas Turks ensured that the lively Killucan attack had to fight hard for their scores. Devon Hill and Sean Leech were a constant threat for the Deelsiders. An open, fast flowing game was played in a great spirit and the spectacle was helped by a superb display of refereeing by Shane Maher who was fairness personified
