LAST MAN STANDING ...

Shamrocks’ Last Man Standing competition has reached its’ final round with remarkably, 7 of the 8 contestants in the penultimate round winning through to next Sunday’s series of matches. Shamrocks’ underage star Susanna Buckley was the only faller on Saturday as Sligo’s miserable league run continued with a defeat to Longford. Hard luck Susanna and well done. Monaghan’s victory in their derby-relegation match against Cavan was welcomed by six of our competitors and Kilbeggan man John Quinn was glad to see wins for Galway and Kildare. Ty Masterson continues to fly the flag for Shamrocks’ underage section and Ritchie O’ Donoghue is still showing the managerial acumen that garnered county titles throughout the 80s and 90s while Conor Craig is showing that he’s not only an excellent netminder for Shandonagh. At this stage it’s very difficult to pick a winner.

In next Sunday’s matches, three entrants have chosen Leitrim to beat resurgent Waterford who will be chasing a fourth successive victory while Dublin, with nothing to play for, face relegated Cavan and two entrants have backed the Dubs and Westmeath’s encounter with neighbours Longford will have extra interest for three of our finalists.

The following competitors are still standing with one set of matches to go:

Ty Masterson: Armagh and Westmeath

Conor Craig: Laois and Leitrim

John Quinn: Meath and Tyrone

Ritchie O’ Donoghue: Dublin and Tipperary

Steven Collie: Armagh and Westmeath

Marie Whelan: Westmeath and Leitrim

Emmet Lyons: Dublin and Leitrim
