Mullingar Shamrocks Under-14 LGF team qualify for County Final …

A total of 24 girls togged out in green and white, under the watchful eye of the coaches – Seamus, Aimee, Karen and Keith for this semi-final showdown with Milltownpass. The girls got off to a great start with some early scores as Saoirse and Ellie kept the Milltownpass attacks at bay. A tidy lead had been established but Milltownpass put the heads down and came back to take the score to a draw at halftime. Alexa and Aya moved the ball well into the forwards and great scores were had by Caoimhe, Robyn and indeed many of the team. The girls played a great game, from the lovely kick outs from Emily in goals, which Rachael was on the end of every ball, to the midfields, forwards and backs. It was a challenging game, made more challenging with a refereeing style that was new to the girls. They fought hard and didn’t count the scores as they went, just kept working. It was a delight to see them ask for the score after the full-time whistle and for them to realise it was their turn for a county final. There was also lovely feedback from the Milltownpass parents and coaches, about the comradery and sportsmanship between the teams, with Gráinne reaching out to new classmates from school and camogie team friends in the Milltownpass dugout, after the match.
