ACL Div.1:  Mullingar Shamrocks 5-18 Tyrrellspass 1-12

Mullingar Shamrocks continued the superb scoring form displayed against Coralstown-Kinnegad in this ACL Div. 1 match against Tyrrellspass at Springfield on Friday night (6 May) and brought their scoring total from the two league matches to a spectacular 5-35 which compares rather favourable to the 0-5 scored in the championship first round against The Downs. But we all know the championship is different and the real test will be provided next Saturday evening in Rochfortbridge v Castledaly.

Dylan McDermott (0-2) and Ciarán Curley (0-1) put three points on the scoreboard in the first minute and additional points from Curley (0-1), McDermott (0-1) Seanie Daly (0-2) and Denis Corroon (0-1) secured an 0-8 to 0-5 lead for Shamrocks after seventeen minutes, a lead that  did not reflect Shamrocks dominance as we conceded some easy scores. Three minutes of brilliant football redressed the imbalance as Denis Corroon, Seanie Daly and Ciarán Curley brilliantly combined to send Patrick Fagan through to smash the ball to the Tyrrellspass net; Fagan added another point almost immediately as did Seanie Daly and after twenty minutes Shamrocks had 1-10 to their credit; the game had escaped Tyrrellspass who trailed at the interval by 1-13 to 0-7.

In the opening ten minutes of the second half Shamrocks forwards ran riot and added 4-1 to their total. The first two were scored by the brilliant-on-the-night Ciarán Curley to bring his total for the evening to 2-5; Tye Adamson ending a scoring drought and Dylan McDermott scored one each after brilliant solo runs through the Tyrrellspass defence. A brilliant Philly Shaw save followed by a phantom foul earned Tyrrellspass a penalty which Ger Egan dispatched to the net after which Pearse Corroon (0-1), Dylan McDermott (0-2) and Eddie Moore  (0-1) completed the Shamrocks total. This was a fine team display with plenty of good combined play and accurate shooting; we are trending in the right direction.

Shamrocks:  Philly Shaw; David Coyne, Effie Siode, Aaron Purcell; Killian Daly (Pearse Corroon, 0-1) Kieran Gavin (Eddie Moore, 0-1), Micheál Curley; Seanie Daly (0-4) and Daragh Daly; Billy Flynn (Paddy Joyce), Denis Corroon 0-1 (Jimmy Grogan), Patrick Fagan (1-1)[Ross Corroon]; Tye Adamson (1-0), Dylan McDermott (1-5), Ciarán Curley (2-5) [Conor Moore].
