Westmeath LGF Senior B Championship: Mullingar Shamrocks 4-24 Coralstown-Kinnegad 0-6

Our Senior B ladies started their championship win with an impressive win over Coralstown-Kinnegad (CK) on Tuesday evening in Springfield. Holly Mc Cormack opened the scoring with a point from play which was quickly crossed out by a Coralstown-Kinnegad score the other end. Micaela O’Connor responded with her first point of the night on her debut in the Mullingar Shamrocks jersey. Teresa and Holly added further to the lead. An excellent piece of defending by Sophie Hegarty where there was a 3 v 1 attack occurring stopped a certain score, followed by a Sarah Geoghegan save helped Shamrocks keep their lead. Further scores from Laura (0-1) and Casey (0-1) along with 0-2 scores for CK left the score at 0-6 to 0-3. Some excellent defensive play by Eve and Liveta led to a Carole Finch goal at the opposite end of the field. Carole (0-3),Casey (0-1), Holly (0-2) and a super goal by Máiread rounded up the scoring for the first half. Mullingar Shamrocks 2-13 to Coralstown-Kinnegad 0-3.

Laura Culkin opened the second half with a well take goal, followed by a lovely piece of high fielding by Carole who laid it off to Holly who finished to the net. CK point from a free. Jasmine (0-1), Carole (0-1) and Holly (0-4) adding scores. CK added two more points from play. Sophie after a super run up the field finished with a point. Excellent link up play between Jasmine, Lisa and Carole leads to another score for Holly.

Another great team performance by our ladies team to follow up from their win in the Intermediate championship on Saturday. We were delighted to see Jenna Kelly, Eve Hynes, Jasmine Haugh and Anne Marie O’Reilly make their debuts at adult level football for Mullingar Shamrocks and also Micaela O’Connor who made her debut for the club on Tuesday evening.
