THE FIRST ENTRY ...
Much sooner than expected, the first entry in our 'Why I miss Mullingar Shamrocks' competition popped through the mailbox last night (Thursday) at 11.04 pm. And it was from an adult member of the club and it sets the bar very high for other entries in the category.
So ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls get writing.
And well done Andrina Finch ... an artist who can also paint with words ...
Well here goes nothing.....In the past 9 weeks I have had definite time for thought reflection and a good re assessment of my role as first and foremost an underage Mullingar Shamrocks
Mother and secondly as an executive committee member who if you had told me two years ago that I would sit in the Greville on the odd Monday night and listen to topics such as fundraising, healthy clubs, Seamroigi underage football, ladies football even down to the pronunciation of a gillet, I would have told you that you were stone mad!
Yes I miss it all, the carpooling with all the new parents I have met, the friends I have made because my son plays on the same team as their son, the camaraderie before during and after each match complete with the few sandwiches and the flask of tea. I miss helping out in the clubhouse where I can put in to action my previous life and experience in catering, I love the hustle and bustle and the general chit chat with all the out of towners showing them what we in Mullingar do best and host!
Yes there are times when you come in from work exhausted and the last thing you want to do is get in the car and go down to Springfield but when you get a bite to eat in to you and you see your young fella all geared up and ready to go and you realise the coaches probably feel the very same way and never complain, you soon get your groove on and get in to the car with your cup of tea. So if truth be known I am looking forward to getting back to Mullingar Shamrocks in whatever capacity it may be and if there is one thing that I could change.....maybe shorter committee meetings???☘️☘️
