Fr Patrick A. 'Phonsie' Mackin.

The death occurred on Monday last (13 April) of Fr Patrick. A Mackin and the Mullingar Shamrocks executive and members offer deepest sympathy to his sister Emma (McEvoy), brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. 'Phonsie' Mackin was a great GAA man and succeeded Seán Nolan as chairman of Mullingar Shamrocks in 1978 and held the position for a number of years at a time when the club was beginning to emerge from a period in the wilderness. Fr Mackin's influece was important in reviving the fortunes of the club. He had previously held the position of County Chairman from 1968 to 1973. Fr Mackin was a native of Kingscourt, County Cavan and served as Parish Priest of the Bohermeen parish in County Meath (1982-2009) after his years of service in Milltown and Mullingar. Fr Mackin was 91 years of age and he died in Navan's Millbury Nursing Home and was buried last Thursday outside the front door of St Ultan's Church, Bohermeen in a funeral ceremony conducted by the Bishop of Meath, Thomas Deenihan. Fr Phonsie contacted the ovid-19 virus and chose to remain in the nursing home which had been his home for the past number of years.
