History was made in Páirc Uí Chaoimh and our LGF players were well represented ...

A slice of history was created today (Saturday) when the women of Cork and Westmeath played their Lidl LGF National League tie in Páirc Uí Chaoimh. The tie was the first time the Cork senior ladies played a competitive game in the famous venue. The home side emerged victorious on a 1-9 to 0-6 scoreline after a good performance by Westmeath. Mullingar Shamrocks were part of the special occasion and four of our players were members of the Westmeath panel; Lauren McCormack was in from the start, Karen Hegarty was a second half substitute, an ankle injury prevented Anna Jones from participating (although the RTE reporter credited Anna with a second half appearance and a point!) and it's great to see Clara Thornton back in the panel and no doubt will be making an impression before the season ends. Michelle Finn earned her place in history by scoring the first point, Eimer Scally scored the only goal and Leona Archibold recorded Westmeath's first score.
